Our Founder
The concept of giving back is a priority in Connie Dwyer’s life with philanthropy serving as the mechanism that motivates and guides her path. During her own breast cancer treatment, Connie met women that had to take buses to and from treatment, hold down more than one job and support their families. The realization of how fortunate she was, became the motivator for Connie not only to help, but to become a part of a solution.
As a former school teacher, Connie had no previous experience with fundraising. With unstoppable determination and support from her husband Bob and three daughters, Connie began laying the groundwork for what would become a life goal.
How it began
Compassion and steadfast resolve were the catalysts for Connie Dwyer’s quest to support uninsured, underinsured and low income women without access to critical care.
Starting simply with a reception in her home, Connie worked tirelessly to create awareness and raise funds. Her goal was to partner with a hospital and create a breast center.
Dedication to Saving Lives
Connie Dwyer has always been passionate about ensuring that every woman, regardless of her financial situation, has access to quality breast health care. Her vision led to the creation of the Connie Dwyer Breast Cancer Foundation (CDBCF), which has become a beacon of hope for women across New Jersey.
Over the past two decades, CDBCF has made a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer. Through its unwavering commitment, CDBCF has provided thousands of uninsured or underinsured women with access to essential breast health services, including screenings, treatment, follow-up care, and ongoing support.
CDBCF has opened three centers in New Jersey including St. Michael’s Medical Center, Trinitas Regional Medical Center, and the Mobile Mammography unit at University Hospital. These facilities ensure that women have access to the care they need. Additionally, the community grants program has further extended its reach, funding vital initiatives that support breast health education, prevention, and care throughout the state.
Connie’s dedication and CDBCF’s efforts continue to save lives, offering a lifeline to women who might otherwise go without the care they deserve.
